This meeting is part of the methodology of fruitful consultation and constructive debate adopted by the government to exchange with political actors on major national issues, including the preparation for the next elections to be held in the Kingdom in 2021, said a statement by the Interior ministry, specifying that this is an election year par excellence with the renewal of all local and professional national representative institutions, whether communal councils, provincial councils, regional councils, professional chambers, elections of employee representatives or both parliamentary Houses.
Speaking on this occasion, Laftit stressed the importance of this meeting, which is aimed at preparing for all upcoming elections and constitutes the effective start of consultations on the elections, according to the same source.
The minister expressed the firm will of the government and political actors to continue strengthening the democratic process of the Kingdom and participate in the building of the Morocco of modernity and solidarity led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the statement stressed, recalling the considerable progress made by Morocco during the last two decades in the political, economic and social fields.
In this regard, Laftit affirmed that HM the King's wise decisions aimed at upholding the rule of law through deep institutional reforms have made it possible to establish a healthy climate for the exercise of democratic freedoms.
After highlighting the positive atmosphere which continuously marks the meetings of the Interior ministry with the various political actors, Laftit recalled that his department ensures and protects the multiparty system, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions.
All stakeholders should take the necessary measures to ensure that the next elections take place in an atmosphere of fair competition and equal opportunities between the different candidates and political entities, in order to strengthen citizens' confidence in the ballot box and in the representative institutions that result from it, the statement pointed out.
The Ministry of the Interior will strive for the success of all stages of the electoral process and will carry out all the tasks assigned to it with seriousness and responsibility, in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution and in all neutrality both in terms of the preparation of the various electoral operations and their achievements, said Laftit, stressing that all the parties must stick to democratic values, election ethics and the obligation to transparency and fair competition to allow election organizers to respond as strictly as possible in the event of violation.
The Ministry of the Interior is mobilized, alongside the secretaries general and presidents of political parties, to examine questions relating to electoral deadlines in order to find adequate solutions within the framework of a responsible and transparent debate, he added, calling on the secretaries general and presidents of political parties to present their proposals with a view to preparing a preliminary basis for possible changes to the electoral system before examining and debating it within the framework of consultations with political bodies.
