This brings to 17,562 the number of contaminations since the first case was reported in the Kingdom on March 2, and to 15,132 the number of people fully recovered, i.e. a recovery rate of 86.2%, said coordinator of the national Center for Emergency Public Health Operations at the ministry of Health, Mouad Mrabet.
The number of fatalities rises to 276, with three new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours in Fez (2 cases) and Berrechid (1 case), i.e. a case-fatality rate of 1.6%, he added, noting that more than 91% of the new cases (296 people) were detected through the contact tracing system.
He added that the cumulative contamination rate in Morocco is of the order of 48.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, i.e. a rate lower than the world average, which currently stands at 188.7 per 100,000 inhabitants.
As for the geographical distribution of new cases, Mrabet said that 181 cases have been registered in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region (167 in Tangier, 8 in Fahs-Anjra, 2 in Chefchaouen, 2 in Tetouan, 1 case in M'diq and 1 case in El Hoceima), 64 cases in the Fes-Meknes region (59 cases in Fez, 3 in Meknes and 2 in Moulay Yaakoub), and 48 cases in the Casablanca-Settat region (all in Casablanca).
Fifteen cases have been recorded in the Marrakech-Safi region (13 cases in Marrakech, 1 case in Kelaâ des Sraghna and the same number of cases in Rehamna), 5 cases in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region (2 in Sidi Kacem, 1 case in Sidi Slimane, 1 case in Rabat and 1 case in Témara), 4 cases in the Eastern region (2 cases in Oujda), 1 case in Guercif and 1 case in Berkane), 3 cases in the region of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (Laâyoune), 3 cases in the region of Dakhla-Oued Ed Dahab (Dakhla), 2 cases in the region of Béni Mellal-Khénifra (Khénifra) and 1 case in the region of Guelmim-Oued Noun (Guelmim).
Regarding the total number of contaminations (17,562), Mrabet said that Morocco ranks 63rd in the world, 6th in Africa, and 12th in the Eastern Mediterranean region (the region to which the Kingdom belongs among the 6 regions of the World Health Organization).
Concerning the number of contaminations reported to the population, i.e. the cumulative contamination rate, the official noted that Morocco ranks 129th in the world and 23rd in Africa, adding that the number of cases excluded after negative results of laboratory analysis is 18,121, for a total of 1,010,211.
With regard to active cases, he noted that 2,154 persons are currently under treatment, distributed in the regions of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (783 cases), Fez-Meknes (496 cases), Casablanca-Settat (355 cases) and Marrakech-Safi (201 cases), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (98 cases), the Eastern region (83 cases), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (68 cases), Dakhla-Oued Ed Dahab (22 cases), Guelmim-Oued Noun (20 cases), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (17 cases), Souss-Massa (8 cases), and Drâa-Tafilalet (3 cases).
Regarding persons in critical condition, Mrabet reported 33 cases in the resuscitation and intensive care units, including 10 intubated persons, noting that these cases are distributed in the regions of Casablanca-Settat (10 cases), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (9 cases), Marrakech-Safi (8 cases), Fes-Meknes (3 cases), Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (2 cases) and Béni Mellal-Khénifra (1 case).
