"America's political leaders on both sides have long appreciated the positive role Morocco has played in regional and international affairs, including its support for dialogue for decades," the former diplomat and connoisseur of the Arab world said in an interview with MAP.
Morocco's decision to resume official contacts and diplomatic relations with Israel was "welcomed by U.S. leaders in both wings of Congress," Feierstein added.
Referring to the recognition by the United States of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, the former ambassador said this decision will bring the two countries closer, stressing that it is "important for Morocco to maintain its position of principle in favor of resolving this dispute."
Feierstein is a fine connoisseur of the Arab world, who served in several countries in the region throughout his 41-year-long career with the US Department of State.
