This agreement, concluded between on the one hand Minister of Tourism Nadia Fettah Alaoui and CEO of ONMT Adel El Fakir, and on the other hand, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Othman El Ferdaous and Director of the CCM Mohamed Sarim El Haq Fassi Fihri, aims to establish the necessary synergies between tourism and film production.
The objective is to develop new marketing strategies and boost the attractiveness of the destination to draw more foreign productions to Morocco.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of this agreement, Fettah Alaoui stressed that this partnership will further the dynamics and synergies of actions between the ONMT and the CCM, with the support of the two ministries.
For his part, El Ferdaous, said that this agreement gives concrete substance to the intersection of two major industries namely tourism and film production, highlighting the importance of promoting the Moroccan destination for international film producers.
For his part, Fassi Fihri reported a total of nearly 800 million dirhams of foreign filming investments in Morocco in 2019 for around 600 filming authorizations that were delivered, noting that it is a significant investment which creates local jobs and which directly affects the development of the local tourism industry.
Morocco has been hosting the shooting of foreign films since 1919. Foreign film productions play an undeniable role in promoting local activities, particularly in the sectors of cinema, hotels, restaurants, car rental, handicrafts and aviation.
Annually, the Moroccan Cinematographic Center supports foreign productions through financial incentives with an amount that reaches 100 million MAD.
