The two officials stressed the exemplary nature of bilateral relations between Morocco and Benin, under the high directives of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Patrice Talon, and their desire to consolidate their strategic partnership to make relations between the two countries a model of inter-African cooperation, based on the values of solidarity, exchange and sharing, said a statement by the ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad.
In this regard, Agbenonci welcomed the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for a solidarity-based and concrete inter-African cooperation, stressed the same source, adding that the two ministers welcomed the results of the presidential elections held in Benin on April 11, 2021, in a calm and transparent manner, which confirmed the victory of President Talon, for a five-year term.
Both sides stressed the importance of developing economic cooperation while calling on the respective business communities to become more involved and seize the opportunities available to both countries in the post-Covid period.
Bourita and Agbenonci agreed to further strengthen their partnership in the areas of training, investment, renewable energy, fisheries and processing of marine products, tourism, Islamic affairs, civil protection, port cooperation, airport transport and justice.
In this regard, the two ministers agreed to hold, in Cotonou, once the global health situation allows it, the next session of the joint Commission of Moroccan-Beninese cooperation.
Regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, the Beninese minister reiterated the support of his country to the role played by the United Nations as the exclusive and consensual framework to achieve a lasting solution to this regional dispute, in accordance with the provisions of Resolution 693 adopted by the Heads of State of the African Union.
In this context, Rabat and Cotonou stressed the importance of strengthening strategic communication and coordination in the various multilateral platforms, such as the African Union and the United Nations.
The two ministers commended the perfect convergence of their views on various regional and international issues of common interest and agreed to support the Moroccan and Beninese bids at the level of regional and international forums, concluded the statement.
